Hydrowype Rod Scrapers and Wipers have been in production at Gadjets, Inc. for over 60 years, originating in the 1940's with the initial AN wiper. Today, a wide range of Hydrowype wipers and metal scrapers are available to provide engineered solutions for many applications, from the MS28776-M2 Military Specification copper-alloy scrapers to hybrid designs of scrapers and wipers built from alloys, polymers, elastomers and composite materials.

Derivatives of the original AN-style wiper continue to be incorporated into many new product designs, not only in aviation but for a wide range of motion industries along with medical, scientific and many other commercial fields.

Hydrowype scrapers are well suited for use in the presence of high heat, extreme cold, and significant contaminants ranging from large chips, crystals and conglomerations, to fine particles and dust down to the sub-5-10 micron size range.

The uniquely coiled construction, heat-treat process and precision machining operations yield a wiper that will maintain close rod contact throughout its lifespan.

A precisely calculated gap in the circumference of the wiper allows for expansion and contraction where rod diameter varies. It also allows the wiper to maintain the intended preload to effect the scraping action while the wiper gradually wears throughout a typically long lifespan.

Installed in the “outboard” position of the gland/end cap of a cylinder, the wiper removes dirt, mud, ice and other foreign matter from rods and shafts before such contaminants reach packing, seals, bearings or fluids. The wiper/scraper protects the rod or shaft from scoring and abrasion that cause damage to seals and packing.

All Hydrowype parts are precision-turned for maximum concentricity and roundness, even including versions constructed of hardened tool steel, which are hard-turned versus ground. This provides for a superior cleanliness and sharpness of scraping surfaces and for absolute precision relative to rod geometry.

Metals are superior to elastomers for heavy-duty applications due to the absence of vulnerabilities resulting from aging, embrittlement and compression-set. A metal wiper can be expected to substantially out-perform and out-last an elastomeric wiper.

A metal-to-metal fit allows for close contact between rod and wiper thus maximizing wiping potential. Metal has other beneficial attributes such as an ability to maintain a constant modulus of elasticity over time, making for conformity to rod irregularities that may emerge through time and number of cycles.

In the presence of high pressures and temperatures that in other materials are likely to induce hardening, embrittlement and compression-set, metal will maintain its desired performance characteristics.

D-Series wipers are available in all materials and in sizes ranging from 1/2" diameter rod size to 36". Smaller, larger and in-between sizes available upon request.
